The studio

The studio.

Trefika is a two-person software studio in Boise, Idaho. Founded in April 2026 by Robin Nilsson and Ken Oakeson.

The name comes from a ritual: the 3 o'clock coffee break, the deliberate afternoon pause that returns colleagues to their work with better ideas than the one they left there. That's our operating principle. We work in conversation, not in isolation. We'd rather take one careful afternoon than a busy week.

What we know

What we know.

Between us, 45+ years of senior engineering. Full stack from firmware to frontend, embedded to cloud. We've shipped backend systems where reliability wasn't optional, embedded firmware that has to survive without supervision, web and mobile clients that get used every day, and the pipelines that hold all of that together.

How we work

How we work.

You talk to the people who write the code. We scope honestly. Claude and Codex are part of how we get from spec to ship, but the judgment stays human.

We slow down to speed up.

We move fast when momentum demands it. We slow down when the problem demands clarity. We take projects we genuinely want to work on.
